Who Are the Best Candidates For a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck is suitable for both men and women who are in good general health.
Women who have had several pregnancies may find the procedure useful for tightening their abdominal muscles and reducing the amount of loose skin. A tummy tuck is also an option for men or women who were once obese and still have excess fat deposits or loose skin around the belly.
The best possible candidate is someone who is already close to their ideal weight, and has stubborn fat and or skin that does not disappear with proper diet and exercise.
How Is A Tummy Tuck Performed?
There are generally two types of procedures you can undergo:
Complete abdominoplasty: The surgeon will cut your abdomen from hipbone to hipbone and then contour the skin, tissue, and muscle as needed. The surgery will involve moving your belly button, and for this reason, you may need drainage tubes under your skin for a few days post-surgery. This procedure may take up to five hours to complete.
Partial or mini abdominoplasty: Mini-abdominoplasties are often performed on individuals whose fat deposits are located below the navel. During this procedure, the surgeon most likely will not move your belly button, and the procedure may only take up to two hours, depending on your case.

Meet Dr Golla
Dr. Dinakar Golla is a native Pittsburgher who is the founder of the Golla Center for Plastic Surgery & Spa. He is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Pittsburgh with extensive experience in cosmetic surgery. He has authored numerous articles, lectured over a 100 times around the country and the world on unique cutting edge techniques in plastic surgery and has trained a number of surgeons who have traveled to watch and learn from his expertise. His ability to listen to his patients desires and to honestly communicate what is possible has garnered him the praise and admiration of his patient population.
Dr. Golla graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa from Boston University School of Arts and Sciences. Then Dr. Golla graduated magna cum laude from the prestigious Boston University School of Medicine. He won the Alumni Association Award, which is given to those students whose efforts raise the Boston University Medical School community, as well as the Dean Eleanor Tyler Memorial Award, which is given to the top medical graduate from the Seven Year Medical Program. In addition, he won the Merck Manual Award, which is given to the top three students of each medical school class. He is also a member of the AOA, a national medical school honor society.
He did his General Surgery and then a Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as well as Chief of UPP Plastic Surgery at UPMC St Margaret and UPMC Passavant. After leaving the University, he founded the Golla Center For Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh to bring cutting edge surgical techniques more broadly to his patients.
